Biography

Andre Borell Image
Andre has always been interested in Motorsport, since he was first able to watch Michael Schumacher in his early days of Formula 1. His father Walter competed in Rally Championships in his Native Germany, and one of Andre’s first words was “Faster”. It was only natural for him to be a racer at heart.

One session in a Hire Kart on a wet Willowbank circuit at age 11 was all it took to get him hooked on racing. Not long after this he spent his ‘life-savings’ on a second hand kart and at age 12 he was ready to race.

Now; many podiums, wins and titles later, he has his sights set on a career in motorsport.

He has proved he has the skill, talent, raw ability and determination to succeed, and with the support he needs there is no doubt he will be a superstar in the future. He is talented and uber-fast, and is one of the big personalities in pit-lane - so watch this space.

2009

Andre stepped up to the big-league in 2009 with the help of new sponsors Master Electricians and simPRO: the Australian Formula Ford Championship. The series is a support class for the V8 Supercars and brought the added pressure of big crowds and TV coverage. None of this fazed Andre however, as he put the oldest car in the field on 12th spot in Qualifying for Round 1 (F1 Grand Prix, Albert Park) without having turned a practice lap. From here on in however, the season fell-apart. Andre struggled with an under-performing car, and when he did manage to wrestle it into a points paying position, he was often robbed by mechanical failure or other driver’s mistakes. The season ended with only 6 points on the board, and a best finish of 8th at Round 6 (Queensland Raceway). The year taught Borell a lot about himself and the sport, and no doubt will make success in the 2010 championship so much sweeter.

2008

Andre’s second year in Formula Ford was a bitter sweet affair for the youngster. It was a year that confirmed to him and anyone watching that he has the ability to succeed in race cars and in particular Formula Ford, yet did not bring the results that could have and should have been. Andre was barely off the podium all year in the Queensland Formula Ford Championship – with his new RF01 (2001 Van Diemen) letting him show off his ability. A crash at Round 5 at Queensland Raceway however left Andre with head injuries that forced him to sit out the following two rounds of the series. These races saw his competitors rack up points while Andre sat on the sidelines, and Andre slid from being a championship contender down to 4th place. He made a comeback at the last Round, again finishing on the podium in all three races, but it was too little too late.
