First Test shows Encouraging results for Borell

Andre Borell has completed his first test with Evans Motorsport for 2010, the team that will be responsible for running his simPRO Master Electricians Racing Mygale SJ10a this season. The test was held using an older model (2009) Mygale – with the goal being for Andre to acclimatise to the new brand of chassis, and for the team to begin to understand Andre’s driving style.

The test was held at Winton Motor Raceway, approximately 2 hours North of Melbourne. Andre spent most of the day on very worn tyres, and did not get into a ‘lap-time war’ with the other Formula Ford’s also testing. “Lap Times is not what today is about, we’re not here to set the world on fire. I am here to adapt to the car and learn how the team operates. Josh and Adam are both easy to work with, and I think we are starting to gel nicely. We changed very little on the car, just worked on my driving style, changing it to suit the Mygale. Having said all that, lap times we’re pretty decent!” explained Andre.

The car that will be used to challenge for the 2010 Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship, the Mygale SJ10a, will be ready for the next test on the 19th of February. Borell explains how the team aims to prepare: “The serious testing will start at that test day. We’ll be working through a detailed testing programme to be ready for the first round at the Australian GP. We’ve got a lot of testing lined up between then and now, so we’ll be in top form”.

In other news, Andre will compete in the Australian Triathlon Championships in Melbourne only days after his next Formula Ford test, on Sunday 21st of February. After taking fourth at the ACT Triathlon Champs, Andre is hoping for another top-5.

Andre has also taken the decision to shed his traditional race number of 87 that he has used since 2003, and will now use the number 5. Andre hopes that this change in number will bring a change of luck for the coming season: “I haven’t had the best of luck using 87. Yeah, I’ve won my share of races and titles with it – but for every one I have won, there has been about ten others that I ‘should have, could have’ won had luck been on my side. I’m not overly superstitious, but I’m willing to try anything” said Borell.

Andre is supported in 2010 by Master Electricians, simPRO, Extreme Safety, Speedo, Yellow Jersey, Xtreme Racing and Mediaglue. For more information contact Andre directly on andre@andreborellmotorsport.com
