Evans Motorsport Group is delighted to announce the signing of former Queensland Karter of the Year, Andre Borell for its assault on the 2010 Australian Formula Ford Championship.
Andre will be partnered with two yet-to-be-announced teammates; who will be campaigning Mygale’s brand new weapon – the SJ10a. The car will be an evolution of the chassis that has dominated Formula Ford racing around the globe, and the young Queenslander just can’t wait to get his hands on one.
“I’m looking forward to working with Evans Motorsport Group and its engineers as I’m sure we can kick off the 2010 season with a car that’s competitive enough to win the Australian Formula Ford Championship.”
After winning a number of karting titles in his home state of Queensland, along with finishing runner up in the Australian Karting Championships in 2003, the 22-year-old progressed his career to open wheelers. In 2007 he started his Formula Ford career in the Queensland Championship in a self run and prepared car, and continued this campaign in selected rounds throughout 2008. He began his national level career in 2009, competing in 7 championship rounds.
Next season will mark his first full season in the national championship and Andre is excited to be making the step up with one on the categories leading outfits.
“I’ve been looking to take the next step for some time now – I think the days where you can win as a privateer might be over. When I visited the team’s factory earlier this month, it wasn’t just the technical resources and the incredible standards of excellence that impressed me. I was equally struck by the ambition, the motivation and the winning spirit that flow through everybody there. And then there’s the team’s short, but impressive history – being able to produce two podium places in as many rounds made my decision pretty easy.”
Former Team Sonic crew chief and now team principal of Evans Motorsport Group, Joshua Evans, commented, “Everybody at Evans Motorsport Group is absolutely delighted to be able to welcome Andre to our team”
“We have kept an eye on Andre’s results since winning his two Queensland Karting championships. We believe he is certainly one of the most underrated drivers in the country and we will be looking to show his full potential in the season ahead.”
“The team and I truly believe we have an excellent platform to build on and move forward on our strong 2009 performances.”
Evans Motorsport Group was a new entry in Formula Ford in 2009 and contested two Mygale SJ08a chassis at the Sandown and Phillip Island rounds of the 2009 Australian Formula Ford Championship – finishing 4th at Sandown and achieving two 3rd place finishes at Phillip Island.
“We’re ambitious, we’re motivated and we’re hungrier than ever. We make no secret of our ambition for next year: Evans Motorsport Group wants to win the Australian and Victorian Formula Ford Championships – and, with Andre and his soon-to-be-announced teammates, we believe we’re equipped as good as any other team in the pitlane to do exactly that.”
An announcement regarding the teams other drivers will be made in the weeks following driver evaluation tests.
